When I see Juan Cole spent most of the summer traveling and reporting in Isreal, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Spain, Bahrain etc on just $25,000 donated by his readers it makes you wonder why a news organization can't give us better reporting on advertising revenue. Now that we can just throw the likes of Cole in jail instead of using the CIA to destroy his reputation and access things should go a little smoother for the Gay, I mean Grey Lady! gwbAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5803385070922797451.post-71376325032987530162012-01-15T11:53:49.765-08:002012-01-15T11:53:49.765-08:00GWB: I followed those NYT links, thanks. The examples given of questionable "facts" that ought to be challenged within news reporting (like Obama's "apologizing" for America") were really what I'd call 'political characterizations.' Challenging them within a news report would amount to debating, instead of reporting.

News reporting is so unsatisfactory because the press pretends to be professionally nonpartisan, when in reality they take a side, so they have to disguise their partisan reactions to politicians they don't like. I would much prefer the system of partisan press that we once had, where there were unabashedly Republican newspapers and Democratic ones, and they would openly rip up the questionable statements of their opposition figures. Much more honest than a 'nonpartisan' press, and probably more effective as a check on politicians.TSBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02790614121966204073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5803385070922797451.post-91007927217958066992012-01-15T09:37:21.895-08:002012-01-15T09:37:21.895-08:00TSB: NYT editor ponders whether telling people the...TSB: NYT editor ponders whether telling people the truth is even an option anymore?? I love it how much trouble these people have telling right from wrong when there is $$$ involved! He does point out that "washing all the money" is where the politicians get involved.
Watch for the Pope's visit in March.
