River Deep Mountain High (1966 Promo Video)

I have no real reason for posting this video, other than that it is the best two and a half minutes of recording that I've ever heard.

Plus, it's infectiously joyous, and that's helping me recover my composure after wading through the smarmy mess of the Podesta divorce.

Well from the news we are apparently poised for an exciting week in foreign and domestic affairs.

James, isn't it always exciting in domestic and foreign affairs? I'm not sure how much more excitement I should imbibe.

GWB, you bring up a tantalizing possibility: Ike advising Putin. Wasn't there an SNL (or some such) routine bit about a relationship advice column called "Ax Ike?" There would definitely be an eye-to-eye understanding between him and Putin.

Putin: "My bitch tryna join EU. WUWT?"
Ike: "She better not tap into any EU, NATO, G-9 or any a dat international community shit. You the only thing tapping dat bitch."

I apologize in advance for channeling Ike.

Reacting to the news of VP Biden being deployed to Kiev with his air-shotgun, Russian troops have been observed in disorganized retreat from the border areas.

Ike Turner: Mentor and hero to Bobby Brown and many others.

GWB: I've been reading about the late Ike Turner, and, although I hesitate to say it, he seems a lot more interesting and a lot less abusive than I'd thought. He had been a producer at Sun Records in Memphis when they were first mixing R&B and pop singers - Elvis, et al - so he knew what he was doing, technically and professionally, when he hooked up with Tina and then Phil "Wall of Sound" Spector.

The abuse - I'd say "spousal" abuse except they were never married (oddly, they were divorced, but never married), was probably much less in reality than was portrayed in Tina's bio-pic movie. Ike's professional reputation as being explosive and abusive with coworkers might have created an expectation that the script writers had to live up to. Tina later said the Disney people added a lot of fiction to Ike's portrayal in the movie.

This is not to exonerate the guy, and he even admitted to slapping her, but I think the image in the Ike Turner memes is mostly exaggeration in the cause of creating bad-taste humor.

GWB: Thou shalt speak of the Bubba in reverence, for he doth drive the original "General Lee"!

TSB: My wife is the big Tina Turner fan so she will like all the in depth research. She loved the clip.

"moments ago White House speaker Jay Carney confirmed that indeed the CIA director was in Kiev last weekend."
Well, that didn't take long! I guess interfax is a better news source than we have here in the US. gwb
