TSB: I had no idea what this "women's march to the Mall" was about until Maureen Dowd explained it to me this morning. (I thought women were always marching to the mall.) Turns out it is: "The Return of the Furies" led by AOC!
So now I'm all for it! https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/19/opinion/sunday/trump-ocasio-cortez-dowd.html "War by SnapChat! Maybe that will save us from war in Venezuela because Trump tells Mulvaney:"We are getting killed in the polls!" And Bernie is "feeling the burn" of the Furies! gwb

TSB: Today ambassadors from UK,Denmark, Poland,Romania,France,Italy,Morocco, Phillipines,Turkey,Iran,Uruguay,Sweden met with Venezuelan President Maduro to recognize him as the leader of Venezuela. Mexico,India and Ecuador have also recognized him. An attack on a police station in Caracas was put down by his military. Our sanctions don't seem to be working so good. gwb

I haven't followed the Venezuela business that closely, but I saw that 'Tropical Trump' - Jair Bolsonaro - thinks Maduro is illegitimate, and his judgement is good enough for me.

TSB: Elliott Abrams named to lead the restoration of democracy and freedom in Venezuela...some are saying that's a bad idea.
Trump's Venezuela point man Elliott Abrams:
-Backed death squads in Latin America that murdered 1000s for right-wing dictators
-Lied to Congress to cover up treasonous Iran-Contra affair
-Led 2002 US coup attempt in Venezuela
Still think this is about democracy & human rights? (Jill Stein) gwb

Abrams is a pretty strange appointment. Someone who probably couldn't be Senate-confirmed for anything due to his convictions for lying to Congress back in the 80's, and THE leading Never-Trumper among the Republican foreign policy establishment. It makes no kind of outside-the-beltway sense.

TSB,

Just a heads up, Dave Barry's twitter account is a hoot.
