Most Eyebrow-Raising Headline of the Week

Spicy Soup Burns Hole Straight Through Man's Stomach  (Medical Daily)

  1. Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is soaking up the sun at a five-star resort in Mauritius with new girlfriend Myriam Aouffir.

But he has agreed to a $6 million payout to hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo to settle her civil action for sexual assault. (NY Post)

TSB: The poor guy has to borrow $3 million from the ex and $3 million from the bank! I wonder if he can sue his therapist if this "young and sun" thing doesn't work out? gwb

  2. What a week TSB! Hillary is out of the hospital and the station she looks to for news in a crisis is now going to be available to the "regular folks"! I'm predicting a lot of grousing from the main stream monopoly crowd, not to mention Paris Hilton. gwb

  3. TSB: GLOBAL TRENDS 2030

The new book size edition of NIC's outlook for the world is out and Tom Engelhardt saved us the trouble of reading it. It covers everything we already know with some really offensive words taken out (ie. assassinations, kill lists). The really good news is that there is no climate change. Evidently that might arrive after 2030. One thing is for sure. The future is getting bigger and bigger! gwb

  4. I percieve a slight stirring in the lair.

  5. TSB: I would love to meet this guy.
Talk about a mello radical! And Uruguay is the safest and least corrupt country south of the border. It's #1 on my list of places I'd like to see. gwb

TSB: Those Columbian gals seem to have great diplomatic skills. Either that or it's the special booze they bring to the party. gwb

  7. I had a week or so in Uruguay years ago, and I agree. It seemed pretty nice. Maybe everybody has a low-grade buzz all day from the mate tea?

Columbia has a harder edge. Being dead drunk and passed out after an all-day orgy with ho's who have stolen everything they could carry away is their style.

  8. James: He's been stirring a bit but I don't think much will come of it until someone asks Hillary what she was doing the night of 9/11 and why there was no mention of it in the report. gwb

  9. TSB: Reading Richard Engel: War Journal about his 1st 5 yrs in Iraq. (The truth vs the total BS he had to report for NBC.) I never realized that we handed the Iraqi's a country in total civil war in 2005. It would be like handing the current Syria to someone who had no army and no militia and telling them "don't worry, Gen. Petreaus will train them for you." gwb

  10. TSB: I'm no NFL team doctor but I used to be a high school football doctor. I would have quit before I let a coach play a guy with an "injured" knee. (Like RGIII) And I would have been fired if I hadn't. Also, we used to have grass on the fields. I've never seen a field like that. So, as usual, I think everyone is missing the point. I blame the doctor. gwb

  11. Good News TSB!: “Starting this spring, our troops will have a different mission: training, advising, assisting Afghan forces,” Obama said. (On a less encouraging note, 200 non-pashtuns blown up in Quetta area pool hall.) gwb

  12. TSB: I love this stuff. Headline was "Harry Reid Tied To Bribery"

Scammers scamming scammers and losing their money. And they are probably all Mormons. gwb

  13. The headline should have been: "Did Dirty Harry Drop A Dime?" And these days in DC who do you call when someone tries to shortchange you on a payoff? gwb

  14. TSB: Did you see this? http://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-government-tells-computer-users-010200788.html

It is very cryptic. HS tells us to disable Java immediately to avoid "criminal mischief". And Oracle (the owner of Java) has no comment. The instructions certainly do not work on my computers. So what's the number for HS customer service? gwb

  15. TSB: Now we are getting somewhere recovering the Mubarek family wealth!

    http://www.aljazeera.com/news/europe/2012/12/20121213173425562653.html

$441 million in Switzerland. Now if we could just get the Brits and the US to cooperate maybe Egypt could avoid having the IMF dictate their economy. gwb

TSB: Now the Sec-State can just windsurf out from Lebanon for direct talks with Assad. Or maybe invite him to meet on the yacht?gwb

  17. TSB: It sure would be interesting to see a good interview with Gen. Carter Ham about Mali and Africa in general instead of just hearing from Leon Panetta. It sorta sounds like the WH is saying "I thought you guys told me we could do this with drones and training African tribesman to support a non-existent government." gwb

  18. GWB: Gen. Ham has a problem with Mali, since it's current government was installed by a coup and therefore U.S. law prohibits us from giving them military assistance. He's probably staying in the background under his lawyer's orders.

  19. TSB: Some of us ignorant citizenry are getting tired of having nothing but 'yelling partisan heads' instead of reporters:

    http://www.juancole.com/2013/01/investigative-journalism-completely.html very funny and true!
And we are tired of having no law except by imperial decree..might be good enough for Morsi. Even the Japaneses are getting tired of our airplanes with the exploding Yuasa batteries.. even though they are good enough for B'aa'ston, Chicago and Seattle. I think Obama might need a good lawyer as well. Did I mention the constitution? gwb

  20. Plan A was Johnny Carson: (Train Africans to regain N. Mali.) Senators said you have no strategy.
Plan B was Carter Ham: He didn't think there was much of a threat but was running secret program called 'sand creek'. The rebels turned off all the radio and cell towers = no intelligence.
Plan C: Panetta says they are a real threat but may start targeting Americans so maybe we should stay out.
Plan D: We really have no plan now that they have hostages but we have lots of "Capabilities" ! gwb

  21. TSB: Carter Ham gave a very brief interview last Friday. His final statement was: "So now what do we do?" I like that guy's candor. He is saying that "our interests" don't include American hostages so maybe let the French get their logistics from DHL. gwb
