Government Reopens And It's All Unicorns and Rainbows

It's morning again in Washington

The deal was cut on Capital Hill last night, the debt ceiling was raised again (so we can add more to the 16.7 trillion we owe now), and today 800,000 Federal employees went back to work, joining the 1,350,000 who had been there all along.

The only cloud I see on the horizon is that the National Zoo's Giant Panda cam is still dark this evening. Let's get with it, people!

I don't get that. It doesn't cost anything to run a web cam anyway - and Ford is its corporate sponsor in case it does - so why can't Americans go back to watching non-stop panda adorableness? Unicorns and rainbows just aren't the same without pandas.

Hey TSB! So cheery Chuck Hagel even came out of hiding! And Robert Hale (DefComptroller) laughed his way through questions about budget question... everyone knows the Defense Dept has no clue where their money goes which is why they need lots more of it!! gwb

Great Picture again!!

What! You're saying we can't watch Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing do the Zing Zing? We need an inquiry.

DOD clearly needs lots more money, if it keeps slipping through their fingers that way. If they get enough, maybe they can investigate the Panda cam situation.

Your Panda cam was up and running yesterday morning. Now get back to work keeping us safe! gwb

I am restored to happiness! (Truthfully, I never watched the panda cam before, and probably won't again. But they sure made a big deal about it during the 30% shutdown.)

Do those pandas ever move? I'm starting to suspect the cam is a big fraud and the pandas are stuffed.

TSB: Oregon hasn't signed anyone up for Obamacare in the 1st 2 weeks after putting $85 million into building the thing. Oracle says it's the most difficult job since NSA and they really needed twice as much time to do it.. sort of like those Afghan building projects. FUBAR!! (paper forms coming soon) gwb

GWB: I read that Oregon is enrolling people in Medicaid (income up to 138% of poverty level qualifies) instead of O-Care because it's very easy to enroll in Medicaid but pretty much impossible to enroll in O-Care. CNN's medical correspondent wasn't able to enroll in it after two weeks of trying.

For anyone who does enroll, there are 500 underwriting districts and none of them have any idea of how to price policies. They won't have any idea until they find out how many people are in the O-Care market and who - age and health-wise - they are. Unless tens of millions enroll, then there will never be a viable underwriting market and people will pay all kinds of crazy and uneven prices, leading fewer people to enroll.

Oregon is right. O-Care is really just rebranded and dysfunctional Medicaide. I say, stay with the system that works.

TSB: Once someone actually gets all the family and pets enrolled in Obabacare it might be worthwhile to add some personal protection like the Japanese are doing. If they just change the message a little they could also sell it to stop NSA snooping. gwb

TSB: I've been considering the disappearance of A Daring Adventure since Aug. 26th and finally I think I have the answer:
SNOWDEN! My theory is that ever since he revealed the level of cyber-warfare and espionage there the Chinese have decided to hand out a little payback. .. Like not buying any IBM equipment.. sales of which totally collapsed in the just finished quarter.
So I think the word has come down to shut up about anything China. But you would think she could make fun of DC??? gwb

GWB: I hadn't considered the Chinese angle. But I've seen some proofs of life recently, and I think ADA will be back before long. All the same, It's better not to annoy the Chinese without cause. They might take our giant pandas back.
