Frozen (the Weather, Not the Movie)
This one was an easy call for OPM: FEDERAL OFFICES in the Washington, DC, area are CLOSED tomorrow. The normal practice for OPM is to wait until about 4 AM on the day of before making an announcement, but they announced tomorrow's closure at 7 PM tonight.
With a forecast of freezing rain tonight, followed by 5 to 9 inches of snow tomorrow, and temperatures going down to the tens or maybe even single digits on Monday to keep it all frozen well into Tuesday morning, there was no suspense about what OPM would decide. The roads will be particularly bad tomorrow, since today's rain will have prevented highway departments from pretreating surfaces with de-icing salt.
A bonus for me is that my BlackBerry died Friday night, which means that I haven't seen any of my office e-mail for two whole days. Now, I won't see any for maybe another two whole days.
Oh, nooooooooo .....

TSB: Did it die of natural causes? gwb
Oh, absolutely. I've had that phone with me around the clock for years, replying to maybe a hundred or more e-mails a day. I got back from a week-long out of town conference on Friday and it just stopped working, probably out of exhaustion, like a loyal house that had been ridden too far too fast. I'm getting quite sentimental about it.
TSB: I'm sure you'll summon the inner strength to carry on without your loyal Sancho Panza.
James: I'm going through the Stages of Grief here. By Tuesday I should be up to Acceptance.
"I'm going through the Stages of Grief here" I shall donate to a deserving charity.
James: I took a 4 hr nap and dreampt about owning a blackberry and answering 100 emails. I only got thru 7 or 8 of them by the time I was in stage 3. Silence is golden!

GWB: Careful with those dreams!

I must caution you riding houses is an unusual pursuit that takes great skill, understanding neighbors, and calm nerves.
Thanks James! Here's one for you! Did you know ELH's dad was a prisoner of war for 10 mos in Korea and she was the top student in her high school class? gwb

James: TSB; Oh goody! another post from TSB! He has definitely achieved acceptance!! But speaking of grief, look at all these rich guys committing suicide. When I lost my $40 bitcoin investment I just blamed it (wrongly of course) on my wife and moved on. gwb

Gwb: ELH is only spoken of in reverent hushed tones around here. This is someone for whom I would happily commit major felonies.
That's great James! I committed all my major felonies in the 70's and ELH was a part of(I mean to blame for) most of them. gwb
