It’s nice but unusual to see State noting the anniversary of a major battle, even if it’s framed as the foundation of Australian-American relations. Hey, the anniversary of Midway is June 4! https://t.co/Vclvm6uRwf

Before that one, the Empire of Japan had won every battle it fought, plus one draw (at the Coral Sea). After Midway the Empire of Japan lost each battle it fought until it was forced to surrender.
Would it be completely out of the question to frame Midway as the key battle that ended the militaristic Empire and made possible the present democratic and more-or-less pacifistic Japan??
I'm about halfway serious.

The Sennacherib smells panic in the political air.
Oh, it is getting overwhelming and it will get worse in the months come. In the words of Big Daddy (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), "there ain't nothing more powerful than the odor of men-dacity. It smells like death." Political death.
I can speak for the Sennacherib, I have never seen or read of a major political party committing political suicide on this scale.
The opinion polling - the good ones that you have to pay for, I mean - are reportedly devastating for Biden, to the point that he's pulling down his whole party. And if he does, yes, they did it to themselves, starting with the 2019 primaries that had no guardrail on the left.
