GWB: I'd heard of self-parking cars, but it never occurred to me that you would have to pay extra for one that also avoided pedestrians. It isn't so hard to invent a self-parking car if you don't mind it hitting people.

TSB:It's hard for me to believe, but Snowded plus Sen. Ron Wyden led to "the least untruthful answer about collecting phone record" and now the politicians are about to move to tame the NSA. Looks like Rand Paul picked a good topic for a mini-filibuster! gwb

GWB: It's pretty astonishing that any part of the Patriot Act might actually sunset, as per the original legislation. Could be that the time is finally right for politicians to start returning the security establishment to its pre-9/11 state. Paul is out front on this, but he can't be effective unless he has other supporters in the Senate. We'll see whether the Congress passes a short term extension of the Patriot Act today; if not, and the PA actually expires, then the Congress will have a very heavy lift to pass a whole new version.

TSB: It's about time those loafers did some lifting. gwb

They might have to (that is, do a whole new bill from scratch) if Paul uses procedural means to block an extension vote before midnight tomorrow. The Senate has a session scheduled for 4PM, and that looks like it will be the last call for the Patriot Act.

GWB: Are you watching C-SPAN for the Senate debate on extension of the Patriot Act? I'm enjoying the last few hours of freedom before ISIS invades America, which should be anytime after midnight tonight. Thinking about calling in sick to work tomorrow.
